Errill

St Kieran's Medieval Church

What had started out as a nice sunny day had turned quite miserable by the time I reached Errill church. The weather wasn't my only disappointment. This late medieval church, dedicated to St Kieran, is not really worth visiting. it is approximately 17 metres in length by 9 metres wide, but almost all the windows and doors have been robbed out. Only the frame of one window and a few worked fragments remain. A rather plain table tomb can be found in the north east corner of the chancel. Ballaghaharin wayside cross to the south needs perfect light to see the inscription, but I will be back to visit Ballagharahin tower house, which is situated further south on the same road.

Situated: On the west side of the crossroads, about 150 metres north of Ballagharahin wayside cross.
